Some of my best memories of childhood are making valentines with my mom while it snowed outside. We used doilies, stickers, old clip art and just about anything else you can think of. This year, I’m lucky enough to have snow outside, and a brand new craft material to play with called ‘Moosgummi’ here in Austria. Moosgummi is just a fancy word for foam sheets; which are available at craft stores in a rainbow of colors.

– Foam sheets (red & pink)
– Heart shaped cookie cutters
– Hole puncher
– Scissors
– String

1 Valentine Decor

1) Press the heart shaped cookie cutters firmly into each foam sheet. The harder you press the better – you almost want the cookie cutter to go through the material as if it’s dough.

2 Valentine Decor

2) With a pair of scissors, carefully cut around the outline of each heart

3 Valentine Decor

3) Add holes to the hearts with a hole puncher. Two punches at the top work great for a garland, and a punch on the top and bottom work great for a dangling heart string.

4 Valentine Decor

4) Tie and knot string around the smallest heart you have made. Thread hearts through one by one as shown. The lightness of the foam will allow the hearts to hang nicely.

5 Valentine Decor

5) Display your heart strings with some red tissue pom poms for a bold and sweet effect.

6 Valentine Decor

6) Other decorating ideas are to add stickers or glitter to the foam hearts. You can also make a miniature garland as I have above for my ‘Valentine Tea Party’ setting. Happy Valentine’s Day!
