While planning for your child’s birthday party, you’re probably checking off your list of things to do, from sending invitations and putting together favors to decorating your house and shopping for birthday presents. Among the excitement of indulging in cake and opening presents, birthday parties should be fun, and games are the perfect way to keep kids entertained and happy.
Celebrate your child’s birthday with festive ShinDigz birthday party decorations, sweet treats and any of the following birthday games and activities:
Candy & Toy Scavenger Hunt
Purchase a variety of candies such as Sweet Tarts, Dum Dum Lollipops, Smarties, bubble gum and Tootsie Rolls. On poster board, draw a key that lists all the candies and toys and how many each child needs to gather. Fill two plastic swimming pools with the various candies and toys such as toy soldiers, small cars, and plastic bugs and lizards from the dollar store. Include an array of distractions such as mega LEGO blocks and ballpit balls that make searching for the candy a fun challenge. Each child will have a bucket that gets filled with the correct number of candy and toys, and the first one to finish wins. Children can of course keep the buckets of candy and toys as birthday favors to take home.
Homemade cereal necklaces are a fun and creative activity. Fill bowls with Honeycomb and Fruit Loops. Use yarn or thick lacing string as the necklace. While sitting around the table, kids will love stringing pieces of cereal onto the string and creating a sugary, colorful necklace. Help children tie knots at the end.
Challenge the minds of your little guests by creating a candy shop and fake currency. Children will be provided with a certain amount of raffle tickets or pennies. Decorate bags, label them with the type of candy that’s inside and include a price such as two raffle tickets or five pennies.
Include a variety of candies such as:
- Blow Pops
- Tootsie Roll Pops
Help your kids shop through your homemade candy store and “pay” for the candies that they want. This game helps stimulate the problem-solving skills of children while also being a fun exercise as well.
Obstacle Course Baseball Game
Is your little one a big baseball fan? Then a baseball game is the perfect activity for kids to play in between pizza and cake. Line children up to bat and hand each of them a bag of popcorn to munch on while waiting for their turn. Each child will step up to the plate using a large wiffle ball and bat to play. When they hit the ball, they’ll make a homerun by crossing each base, which will be an obstacle course. For first base, group together hula hoops, and the batter will hop in each one. Replace second base with a tunnel tube for the batter to crawl through. Create a DIY balance beam using three pieces of wood, and place it at third base. The batter will make his or her way home after crossing the beam without falling off. High five the little guy or girl and see who’s up next to bat!
