Using buttons for crafts has been around for ages, but today’s crafters are getting more creative than ever with their button craft ideas. Buttons can be used for a wide variety of crafts, and are certainly not limited to sewing crafts. While buttons can be sewed onto crafts, they can also be glued or used in a number of other ways. Thinking outside the box when working with buttons can make your crafts better than ever, and expand your crafting horizons.
Many crafters use buttons for adornment and decoration of other projects such as accessories and home décor projects. Buttons can also be used in a functional way when making clothing. Depending on the type, buttons can even take a plain looking project and add some definite pizzazz.
There are an unlimited amount of uses for buttons since they come in all different shapes, sizes, finishes and colors. There are gold buttons, plastic buttons, shiny buttons, antique buttons, neon buttons and much, much more. Depending on your craft project, you could use anywhere from one button to hundreds of buttons. Incorporating buttons into crafts adds an unexpected and fun design element.
Some trendy button craft ideas include incorporating buttons in holiday decorations and using buttons in accessories like hair clips. Holiday decorations like ornaments, place holders, Christmas trees and napkin holders are all great places to use buttons. Mix in silver and gold buttons with more traditional colors for added character and elegance.
For fashion crafts, buttons can be used to decorated hair clips or bobby pins. Simply glue buttons to the end of a bobby pin or hair clip for an instant change to your look. This is a great craft for young girls who are just getting into crafting and also love playing around with fashion accessories. Bags, headbands, bracelets and other jewelry items can all be updated with buttons or made completely with buttons for a cute and fun look.
Around the house, there are tons of craft ideas involving buttons that can liven up your home décor. Try making a bouquet of flowers out of buttons, decorating kid’s room décor with buttons, gluing buttons onto flower pots, or putting magnetic backs on buttons to turn your fridge into a creative and button-filled space.
Searching the Internet or crafting sites will give you many more button craft ideas. You can either purchase buttons new for craft projects, or find buttons around the house that could be used for crafting. Keep your favorite buttons from clothing items or look for buttons at yard sales or flea markets for an added personal touch. You can also find buttons and completed button crafts for sale on sites like Etsy.com and even make your own buttons with a pattern from Craftsy.com.
Get creative with your buttons and see where that creativity takes you. You can start small by adding buttons to pages or clothing pieces, or make a bold statement with buttons in your home décor and more! Once you start crafting with buttons, you’ll never look at these cute little things the same way again.
