For today’s interview please welcome Elycia from the very lovely blog Love Elycia. I am a big fan of Elycia’s blog and so was super happy when she agreed to pop over and answer a few questions for us. If you haven’t taken a look at her blog yet then do head that way and see what you have been missing, and for you and for all those you are already fans, let’s find out a little more about ♥ Elycia.
Your website is such a wonderful creative mix, please tell us a little about your background and how the website came about? Thank you! I absolutely love working on projects, taking photos, learning new things and just generally having fun. I originally started my blog to accompany my etsy shop which has since disappeared. I really developed a passion for blogging so I have been focusing on that more and more. I try not to limit myself in terms of what I blog about. If I am interested in something it is fair game! That keeps it fun for me.
How do you decide what to write about and feature, and how do you come up with your great ideas for blog posts? As I just mentioned, I write about things that I am interested in. I really love taking photos so a lot of my posts are photo based. I write about things that get me excited and a lot of times blogging reminds me to have more fun and appreciate the small things in my everyday life. In terms of coming up with ideas for blog posts I don’t put pressure on myself to sit down and think of things to write about. Ideas usually pop into my head while I am busy doing something else. I just need to make sure I write them down because my memory is kind of useless!
Do you undertake running your website on a full-time basis or do you have other work/family commitments? Currently I am lucky enough to have a husband that lets me work on my blog full-time. I have a few projects I do on the side but this is my main deal at the moment and I love it.
Tell us a little about your typical day and what is involved in running the website? Everyday is a little different because I am not the best at sticking to a schedule. I like to work really hard on my blog on days when I am feeling super inspired so that I don’t have to worry about anything if I have an off day where I feel like I am not accomplishing anything. Almost everyday includes responding to emails which is not a bad job if I actually do it everyday. One of my major stress factors is knowing that I have emails in my inbox that need a response. I work much better if I can clear that off my list everyday.
What advice would you give to others who are considering starting a blog or website? I think the most important advice I can give to anyone is to be yourself and just have fun with it. If you go in with too many expectations and things don’t work out the way you were hoping you may be disappointed. It is important to blog because you enjoy it. Also, don’t get caught up in what everyone else is doing and what you think you ‘should’ be doing. I love blogs where the person has similar interests to me but I love it even more when I can find out about things that they are interested in that I may not know much about. Be yourself, have fun and blog about things that get you excited.
As this is Art of Crafts I have to ask, do you enjoy any crafts yourself? If so, please tell us more. Absolutely! Too many. I really love learning new things and switching from craft to craft. I enjoy crocheting, knitting, embroidery, painting, drawing, sewing…the list goes on and on. My current favourite is probably crochet. I’m working on a granny square blanket that is going to cover our king sized bed.
Finally, if people want to learn more about your business/website do you have a Facebook page or Twitter profile where they can find out more ? I have a slightly neglected Facebook page (sorry Facebook, as much as I loved you in University I just can’t get into you now) and a Twitter account.
I like Twitter because it is so quick and easy to interact with people. Reading a lot of blogs can be very time consuming so it’s nice to keep up with people through Twitter. I am also a huge fan of Instagram.
